2018 Streicker Bridgeland Block Rose
The Shiraz fruit is crushed and cold pressed immediately in order to extract only the slightest amount colour and only the purest fragrances and textures from the skins. The juice is cold settled prior to fermentation at low temperatures in barrel. Our aim is to preserve freshness and capture aromatics, while developing texture and complexity in oak. When fermentation was complete, the wine was then racked off of its lees to stainless steel before stabilising and bottling in July of the vintage.
After an unseasonable dry early Winter, late rains in August and September came to the rescue. Budburst commenced in early August and continued until late September. Significant rain events persisted through to mid-October, with conditions fining up through the flowering period enabling successful flowering and fruit set. Vine growth was excellent and excess vigour issues were dealt with by employing shoot thinning and vine de-legging practices, in a successful attempt to deter regrowth and crowding of fruit zone areas. Harvest began on the 27th January, in line with the earliest picking dates on record, trailing out until completion on the 13th April.
Bing cherries, red plums and hints of cinnamon and white pepper.
A balanced entry of crisp natural acidity and generous red fruit flavours. Tones of creamy French oak, red apple skin and cherry blossoms lend brightness to a finely textured palate of crushed granite and Turkish delight. A moreish finish of savoury white pepper and dried herbs is balanced by yet more red fruit flavours and hints of freshly whipped cream.
Up to 2 years, however we enjoy it for freshness now.
