Trophy at the International Wine & Spirits Competition

To top off what has been an incredible year in the awards space for us, our Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 has just been awarded the highest accolade at The International Wine & Spirits Competition.

It was one of 8 still red wines, of a total 7,000 tasted, to bring home a wine trophy!

Tasting notes from the judges said,
"Restrained aromas of fresh blackberries, with hints of opulent black truffle. The palate is slick and supple, with polished, silky tannins and layers of graphite, ocean spray and forest floor. This is magnificent: assured and age-worthy, with a clear pedigree."

Many hands have worked these cabernet vines over their 46+ years on this special plot of land in Wilyabrup. We are grateful for every single person who has contributed in some way. We now focus our attention to protecting these vines for future generations to come.

We are also proud to share we have been shortlisted for the 2023 Old Vine Trophy.

The Old Vine Trophy recognises producers working to preserve and protect their heritage vineyards.

The story of the A Block is well told here at Clairault Streicker in terms of the legacies put in place by the Lewis Family. Since then, the respect and care taken by Senior Viticulturist Chris Gillmore and his team and the wines made from here by Bruce Dukes and team have all contributed to this heritage being withheld. We see ourselves as custodians of this story and look to improve on the detail with reference to the place it is grown in and the hopes for the future preservation and integration with country.

The Old Vine Trophy winner will be announced at the IWSC Awards Celebration on 19 October, and the winner will be invited to take part in The Old Vine Conference 2023, where they will be interviewed about their work with old vines and what it means to them to have won the Old Vine Trophy.

We are thrilled to bring Wine on the Water back for this years Fine Vines Festival.

It’s a special time of year throughout the Margaret River region in Spring, made all the more so by the confluence of wine and water in this tour with a difference; it’s whales you’ll be among, not vines. Hop aboard the catamaran Alison Maree alongside the team from Clairault Streicker and experience a sunset canapé whale watching cruise with wine. This tasting and coastal exploration is an ideal experience that vividly illustrates the influence of the wild landscape on production of Margaret River Region wines.

Streicker Ironstone Block Old Vine Chardonnay 2020 Awarded Top Score of 97-Points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023

 

The Streicker Ironstone Block Old Vine Chardonnay 2020 scored 97-Points, the highest score awarded, at one of the world’s largest and most influential wine competitions.
 
The 97-Points score and Platinum Medal places the wine within the top 175 of 18,250 wines of all varietals and styles dged from 57 countries.
 
Within this, it placed within 23 chardonnays from around the world, and one of 7 from across Australia.
 
The 2023 competition saw an influential troupe of 236 wine experts, including 53 Masters of Wine and 16 Master Sommeliers, come together from 30 nations.
 
Feedback from the judges,
“Ripe and fragrant, rich and fresh with savoury tidy conveyance. Very refined style with a pleasant fruit profile on the palate. Toasted nutty oak prevails with attractive lemon aftertaste.”

The 20th edition of Decanter World Wine Awards saw 18,250 wines judged from 57 countries with the following results: 50 Best in Show, 125 Platinum, 705 Gold, 5,568 Silver and 8,161 Bronze medals.

The 2023 competition saw an influential troupe of 236 wine experts, including 53 Masters of Wine and 16 Master Sommeliers, come together from 30 nations. As the temperature drops and the leaves change colour, our Yallingup Protea Farm is returning to life after the dormant summer months.

Our Wine Blending Experience is a great way to spend time with mum, and the rest of the family, for those with an interest in wine and looking to expand their wine knowledge. We also offer gift vouchers for the Wine Blending Experience if you aren't ready to book.

Lastly, you can't go wrong with rosé. Our Clairault Margaret River Pinot Noir Rosé 2022 is a elegant style of rosé with pristine natural acidity. Aromas of red cherries, plum blossom and cinnamon are met with nuances of dried thyme and grapefruit on the palate. 

Fences for Biodiversity Protection & Revegetation

We bet you've noticed the big dam to the south of our long driveway, as you enter the Clairault Vineyard, Cellar Door & Vineyard Kitchen from Caves Road.

We recently fenced that dam to protect the water source and ultimately part of the 85ha area of remnant Jarrah, Marri, Banksia and Peppermint forest. The dam is at the head of three separate catchments at Wilyabrup, and with plans to plant and revegetate the area, this will assist in protecting the biodiversity and environmental integrity of the catchment.

We're continually inspired by the hard work and progress Senior Vineyard Manager & Viticulturist Chris Gillmore and his team are making towards a more sustainable future for our four sites and the region.

"Our team have a responsibility to preserve and boost the biodiversity and environmental integrity of the area," said Chris Gillmore.

"We're working to protect bushland and water sources, boost water quality in the catchment, and plant out wildlife corridor to link bushland."

The Margaret River region can surprise unfamiliar visitiors with it's vast size and generous offerings. It's easy to get side-tracked with the beautiful places on offer, and that is why we suggest planning your visit with one of the local self-guide drive trails.

Whether you are driving from Perth to Margaret River, or flying straight into the Busselton Margaret River Airport, see more of what matters with these recommended routes so you can take it all in, in your own time. 

Our Location

Our venue is located in the heart of the Wilyabrup subregion, approximately 15 minutes drive south of Dunsborough, 30 minutes south-west of Busselton and 30 minutes north of Margaret River. 

There are five self-drive guide trails within the region, with our venue fitting into the Gracetown to Cowaramup: Harvest and Vines Trail.

Connect to the generosity of the earth, and those who are dedicated to her. 

Almost like a golden triangle of winemaking, the humble area between Gracetown and Cowaramup, known as Wilyabrup, is where locals and visitors go to live like kings. The land is bountiful and giving. It’s the region’s powerhouse of vineyards, farming, working families and artisan production.  

Once a land of milk (literally), there’s now honey and wine. The landscape is one of rolling fields, hay bales and lush vineyards bordered by virgin native bushland. Those who visit have no choice but to witness the seasons first-hand and are compelled to meet the makers, see the production and sample the fruits of land, labour and love. It’s like all roads lead to this special pilgrimage.  

Old secrets of winemaking, brewing, distilling and tempering are whispered here. Of course, days end at the coast, and in this case, it’s Gracetown’s Cowaramup Bay, where the sun sets into the water.

Visiting Us

There's something for everyone at our Cellar Door & Vineyard Kitchen. We have a few different tasting options, listed below, or stay and enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the vines, luscious greens and native bushland. The food is seasonal and modern, served in a casual style and made with ingredients sourced from producers local to the venue.
 

Wine Tasting Options:
 

Seated Tasting - take a seat and let our knowledgeable team guide you on your own wine journey. 
$10 per person for 6 wines, allow 30 minutes.

Sample Wine Flight - enjoy 30mL samples of 6 of our wines at your own pace, in a location suited to you. Spread out on our lawn, outside on the deck, or inside by the fireplace.
$15 per person for 6 wines, equates to 2 glasses of wine - plan your drive home safely.

Wine Blending Experience - for those who wish to step things up a notch, for the vino aficionado. A dedicated team member will sit down and guide you through the wine blending process, to help you blend your very own wine. Learn the theory behind why and how wines are blended, then measure, mix and taste a wine to your taste.
$85 per person, allow 90 minutes, take home a bottle of your blend

Cape Lodge

Located next door to us at Clairault Streicker is the epitome of luxury accommodation in Margaret River, Cape Lodge. It impresses with the appearance of a private country estate, but the trappings of a world-class boutique hotel. The rooms are centred around a picturesque lake and forest, surrounded by manicured grounds, pool, a waterside restaurant and vineyard. Eight Willows Retreat

The entry into Eight Willows Retreat is striking; a winding driveway that crosses a lake, surrounded by native bushland, with a scenic gazebo perched over the water. Here, 25 self-contained chalets are set on 75 acres of pristine nature, with each positioned for maximum privacy. The Retreat is located away from the hustle and bustle of towns for a secluded and relaxing stay. Choose from one or two bedroom chalets as well as one grand 10-person country residence.
